Friends and catching up on the blog

I got online with a friend of mine today and we chatted over IM, which hasn't happened in a month of Sundays. She started her own blog, and asked me how mine was doing. Ahem. Blush. Err. So - thanks to my buddy, I've renewed my attempts to blog.

I last wrote in January, discussing trying to learn to make more things from scratch. It's still on my mind, and I'm getting there, but life intervenes. I'm still nursing my rib, which broke with some help from Maisie, the possessed milk cow (well, not really, but she might as well be), and doing school during the summer as well as the garden stuff without my willing helpers, who are needed at their paying jobs LOL!

Speaking of Maisie, we now have a heifer calf! Yes, the same early morning she gave birth was the same morning she took exception to me leading her to the barn, which led to the rib issue. Mamma is actually allowing one of my kids to milk her, so it's working out for the most part. We still haven't decided what to do with her in the long run. I'd like to sell her and keep her youngster - as long as she has a more placid personality than her mother!

Right now, my kids are on break from work, so we took on a biggish project - painting the family room. It's drying as I type. I'm excited to make a change, small as it is in the big picture. It's amazing how a coat of paint changes how you look at things. It also shows up shortcomings I hadn't noticed before - like how tired and drab the carpeting has suddenly become. Next project! My poor husband - as if he doesn't have enough to do! I am excited though - we needed a change and I think this is a good one to start with!

Blessings all! I will try to do better at blogging!
