Ok, I admit it...my father would sing that song from the musical "Oliver" with a few well-chosen words of his own LOL! Anyway, I digress. I know, you're surprised .
I've been finding myself thinking over how we nourish our bodies and what foods and drinks are made available to us through the grocery conglomerates. There had been a story on the news about the health dangers inherent in BSA, found not only in certain plastics, but now discovered also to be inside canned foods. I had also been reading on the dangers of high fructose corn syrup as well as soy.
Today I did my monthly run to the big box store. I realized, while walking the aisles, how many foodstuffs I buy which I really could learn to make from scratch myself, but that I've never considered doing simply because I am in the habit of purchasing them. If I want to treat my body as a temple for the Holy Spirit, and do the same for my husband and children, then I truly need to start thinking a new way about food - a paradigm shift, as it were. What did people do a hundred years ago? They didn't buy mac and cheese, packaged bread, etc. They made most of what they ate from the basics they had.
I need to do this. We all need to do this. We need to eat local, eat organic, grow and raise our own food as much as we are able. The grocery conglomerates have trained us good and proper to buy cheap and eat cheap. Since processed foods were introduced in the 1930s, people have become dependent on the grocery stores and their health has suffered as a result. Diabetes is fast becoming an epidemic - why? Cancer rates don't fall...why? Food allergies are rising...why?
Just some food for thought....pun intended.
